Ostensibly a concept album about singer Maynard James Keenan's mother's long, painful battle with paralysis, 10,000 Days slowly becomes a long, painful battle to stay awake, with its confounding 10 minute long alien acid freak-outs, silly lyrics about smoking the pot, and a general sense of overwrought aimlessness. 10,000 Days is the Grammy Award-winning fourth studio album by American rock band Tool. While the band's latest effort Fear Innoculum was surely tempting, we've decided instead to tackle 10,000 Days, an album which even avowed Tool fans have gone on record as despising. That is very presumptuous of your part, maybe i do have all the proper equipment and you are the one obsessed with this band, therefore lack the emotional distancing for a clear and honest judgement, however you should have in mind that this review is of course exaggerated, there are good things on Tool’s 10000 Days, i just think the not so good things are of more relevance. Mike and Heather's guest for this week, Jenner Barrington-Ward, falls squarely into the latter camp, as do your two intrepid hosts. The reason Tool doesnt allow iTunes (or any other digital music distributor) to sell their music has little to do with 'illegal file sharing' or that theyre simply 'holding out like Metallica. Known for their odd time signatures, snaking arpeggios and minor key dirges, Tool's unique approach to metal has amassed them equal shares of devoted fanatics and vehement detractors. Time to talk about Tool, one of the most divisive bands in rock music. We will be saying very mean things about the band Tool on this episode of Make It Stop!
